One of the Phantom's demands to Opera directors was that they had to
kept empty Box Five only for him.
Madame Giry explained that he only was there when the second act of
every Opera (his favourite was Faust) had begun. Of course she
couldn't see him (he used to hide himself in one of the columns), but
she could hear his sweet voice asking her for a chair or maybe the
evening program.
This Box is situated in the Opera second floor, left side, at the end of
the corridor.
So, it had to be perfect to enter or go out from it, being unseen.
