Felix  Müller
Born in 1964 in Berlin, this wonderful tenor has been in works so
celebrated as Don Giovanni (Mozart), Fidelio (Beethoven), Aida
(Verdi), Tannhäuser (Wagner) and in musicals so famous as La cage
aux Follies, Grand Hotel, Anything Goes, JesusChrist Superstar, The
Beauty and Beast, etc.
He is the main character (The Phantom) at the great musical versions
of Thomas Zaufke and Gerber.

Thank you so much for this wonderful interview, my friend!

Sandra - What are the origins of these two versions of the Phntom of
the Opera story, composed by Mr. Zaufke and Mr. Gerber?

Felix - Both versions were created after an order by a european (swiss-
founded) touring company.
The Zaufke version was written after Mr.Gerber cancelled the
performance-rights for his version. So we decided to write our own
version.

Sandra - What has meant for your artistic career being the Phantom
of the Opera in these musicals?

Felix - The Phantom-part was very important form me to play, cause i
have had an incredible director, who worked a lot with me. I think in
this production I learned a lot about the using of my voice for to
express emotions & feelings directly. And about the combination of
singing and acting…

Sandra - What are some of the aspects you have brought into your
interpretation of the Phantom?

Felix - I wanted to show the men behind the „phantom“ and his
search form a normal life and love.

Sandra - What is your favourite scene and why?

Felix - The first big Solo-Scene in the Zaufke-Version, because „Eric“
is thinking / talking about his life and the way he became „The
Phantom“.
And I love the death-scene, it is beautiful music and i love to sing this.

Sandra - What did you find most difficult to prepare for your role?
Did you read any book or see any movie?

Felix -
For me it was not difficult to prepare for the role, but it was
hard to play it for such a long time, day by day, especially on tour.
I read the book before we wrote our own version, and I had seen the
movie-version with Claude Rains and Nelson Eddy, and I think the
movie with Charles Dance too.

Sandra - What do you think about the main character, the Phantom?

Felix - He is a very intelligent, creative man searching for love.

Sandra - Can you tell us a good anecdote you remember when you
were the Phantom?

Felix - One thing I can remember was a young conductor we had on
tour, years ago. He thought he must have his mobile-phone switched
on for the whole performance, and one day during my big scene with
Christine his phone wrang liing right on the condutors desk.
Just a short time after this we had a new conductor… now he could
have phonecalls as much as he likes.

Sandra - What opera would you like to play in the future?

Felix -
I would love to play more operas from Wagner and Richard
Strauss, and perhaps Verdi's Aida and Othello. Well perhaps a nice
production of Turandot.

Sandra - What is your favorite opera and musical?

Felix - Some of my favorite operas are Tannhäuser / Turandot/ Frau
ohne Schatten/ Othello/
Musicals I like very much are Secret Garden / Sunset Bvld. / Man of
LaMancha/ South Pacific/ Tanz der Vampire…..

Sandra - Tell us about your future projects.

Felix - I am going to play in some summer-production of
ZIRKUSPRINZESSIN by Kalman,
an Operetta-Revue placed in Circus and an russian Operetta-
Programm. From September on I have several Opera Concerts mostly
with Wagner repertoire. And I hope to play the witch in Hänsel and
Gretel during the christmas-season.
